Even though I knew ahead of time how The Sopranos was going to end it was still a powerful moment, and I can only imagine how fans who had tuned in for the final episode felt.
I actually read somewhere that people who had been watching at the time thought that the power had gone out when the screen abruptly cut to black, and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” stopped before the “believing”.
Fans debate what happened to Tony Soprano. Some feel that he was murdered, while others think he survived.
In the Spring of 2015 David Chase, executive producer of The Sopranos, presented the Director’s Guild of America with his own shot-by-shot analysis of the final scene, but the mystery of Tony Soprano’s fate has still been left up to the viewers.
I don’t know if Tony is alive or dead, but I couldn’t help but agree with the points made in a Vox video that annotated the ending of the show, which I’ve shared below.
Tony is dead inside, and has been for a very long time.
